Oh Canada
We stand on guard for Thee.
March 4, 2025. A day that will go down in history.
Trade War: Canada-USA
A kilometer from my house stands a monument to the War of 1812—the last war between Canada and the USA.
The Americans lost in part because of the heroic acts of one woman (Laura Secord) and the Six Nations indigenous confederacy, resulting in the capture of six hundred American soldiers.
In retaliation for the war, the residents of my village together with British soldiers marched to Washington and burned down the White House.
Never underestimate a Canadian.
After that fiasco, Canada and the USA became best friends. Over the next two hundred plus years, we enjoyed a wonderful trading relationship.
Until today.
Today, I woke up to the news that the USA has blanket slapped us with 25% tariffs.
Has the War of 1812 re-ignited?
Has everything we worked been for nought?
Together, Canada and the USA fought for global peace and prosperity. We fought side by side in every major war. We set goals together. During 9/11, we cried together. Canada sent aid to the USA.
When the planes stopped flying, Canadians took Americans into our homes and cared for them until they could return home.
In fact, during America's many natural disasters, Canada is always the first to send aid. Just this winter, we helped save California from forest fires. Has America forgotten already?
Where's the gratitude, Mr. President?
We were at your beck and call for two hundred years. Together, we collaborated to solve joint economic and global problems.
We have always stood by your side and always defended you.
Where's the gratitude?
You, Mr. Trump, have set the new ground rules. Now, the gloves are off.
Never underestimate a Canadian. We may be quiet and passive, but if you cross us, you may get more backlash than you bargained for.
We are not and never will be the 51st state.
Oh Canada. We stand on guard for Thee.
Every Canadian stands proud.
Every Canadian is willing to fight.
Stop the tariffs now.
